SHE WEARS IT WELL

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Yesterday we discovered a new Portland fan and her great fashion blog Some Girls Wander By Mistake. In these photos she’s wearing our Sky Fleece in blue. It’s a great transitional piece! She’s also associated with the The Black Apple Blog which is full of fun, crafty things.

Very cute indeed.

MORE SCARY FRIDAYS

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Our office manager just informed us that there are a total of three Friday the 13th’s this year. In addition to the one before Valentine’s Day there is one in March and one in November. Creepy.

If you’re looking for something to laugh at this is how the conversation went.

Lorie: There are three Friday the Thirteenths this year!
Nicole: When are the other two?
Lorie: One is in March and the other is in November.
Nicole: That’s kind of scary. What are the dates?
Lorie:….the 13th.

T-SHIRT CULT

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Our Civil Equality T-Shirt will be available early next week. This special tee is a comment on the Proposition 8 Amendment to the California Constitution that was passed on Election Day. It’s a great design that reminds us love always wins. 10% of the proceeds from this shirt will go to Lamda Legal!

Two other cool designs we have coming out soon are below. Our team delivers 6 new styles a month. Don’t forget to keep checking in.

COUNTDOWN TO SPRING

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

Good news: The countdown to Spring has begun! Daylight Savings is on the early side this year. March 8th to be exact. In 17 days we’ll officially spring forward, which means longer days and hopefully (significantly) warmer weather.

If you’re over winter and have started thinking spring, join us tonight at our New York and Chicago stores. We’ll be raffling away prizes provided by our good friends at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. We’re giving away 9 memberships! Our Think Spring event begins tonight at 5:30. Click here for more information. You can take home plants, books, and possibly a membership to one of the best Brooklyn organizations around.

OTHER MUSIC

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

We like to think we have good taste in music. Some of the tunes playing in our stores are oldies (but goodies), many are alternative bands and all are worth listening to. Here’s a few artists that we’re currently listening to:

Arthur Russell
Prince

The Smiths
Talking Heads
Hercules and Love Affair
Hot Chip
The Cure
LCD Soundsystem
Dr. Dog
The Kinks
Cut Copy
Beach House
Young Lords
Deerhunter
Kevin Drew

Check them out if you haven’t already.

Most of our music is purchased at Other Music in Soho. They offer great recommendations and have almost everything from A to Z. It’s also extremely low-key. You won’t have to deal with the annoying crowds found in major music stores. Maybe we’ll make a trip this week to purchase M. Ward’s new album. We hear it’s awesome.

OPENING EVE

Yes, our doors open in Portland today at 11. Opening eve was no doubt a time crunch. Here’s an updated peek into what’s in-store.

RICHTER

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Below are gorgeous images from Gerhard Richter’s Overpainted Photographs series. Richter’s work was a central inspiration behind the design and feel of Brooklyn Industries’ Spring 2009 collection. You could stare at these pictures for hours.

See all of his great work here.

THINK SPRING WITH US

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

On a beautiful day like today we’re happy to Think Spring! We’re so excited to share with everyone the new Spring 2009 collection, which is rolling out in stores and online all month.

We photographed our collection within the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Steinhardt Conservatory lush with every type of plant under the sun. The collection drew inspiration from the color palette and mood of artist Gerhard Richter’s Overpainted Photographs series.

To celebrate the spirit behind this collection, and our partnership with BBG, we’re holding a Think Spring! event in all of our Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Chicago stores on February 19th from 5:30 pm to 8 pm.

If you’re a plant lover, then this event is for you! We’re raffling off free plants, horticulture books, and memberships!
